Colours – Cat looking for a new home

Wednesday, March 31st, 2010

Dear Friends.
We’re looking for a new home for Colours, our cat and would appreciate you letting us know if you or if you have any friends who may be interested.
Colours was born in May 2003 and has a full veterinary vaccination and health record.  She was also spade as a kitten.  She is semi-domesticated, as most of you know, for as happy as she is to come inside at her choosing, she’s happy to be outdoors and sleeps outside.  She has a bed that she uses in the winter and is happy to be in the garden in the warmer/summer weather.  She likes to sleep and play outside, but is happy to come inside of an evening, curled up on the sofa!
She is a beautiful coloured cat, hence her name, as you all know and can see from the pictures attached.

Please leave comment for current owner or contact PAWS if you know of anyone who might be interested, someone who has a garden, or someone who’s willing to domesticate her to sleep indoors and I can give them more information.

2 Cute Bunny Rabbits

An adoption is available of 2 cute bunny rabbits. They are loving, cute and very funny. The reason for this adoption is because there is no enough space for them, and they cannot enjoy themselves, The adoption is for free of cost and should be sent in a good home because many people irritate bunnies, they are also potty trained…. they poop in a small  pot!

Please leave comment or contact PAWS on pawsq8@yahoo.com in case if you want to adopt them.

5th Annual PAWS for the Cause Dog Show

5th Annual PAWS for the Cause Dog Show

On Friday 5th March, by kind permission of Her Majesty’s Ambassador Mr Frank Baker, the British Embassy hosted our 5th Annual PAWS for the Cause Dog Show. As  a non-profit, non-funded charity we rely heavily on fundraising events throughout the year and donations from the public to keep the shelter running. Abused and injured dogs and cats throughout Kuwait find a secure haven at the PAWS Animal Shelter, often they are lucky enough to be rehomed or simply nursed back to health.

The purpose of this years Dog Show was to raise much needed funds for the shelter, both to help cover the ever increasing running costs and to aid the relocation of the shelter. Food bills and vets bills alone  amount to 1000KD a month and it’s a constant battle to raise sufficient funds to keep the shelter going.

Thanks to a very dedicated band of volunteers this years Dog Show was bigger and better than ever.

The  show itself consisted of 9 categories including Best Tail Wagger and Best Rescue Dog, the winners of these categories then competed for the Best in Show prize.

Best in Show was won by Dolce, a beautiful Shih Tzu owned by Bader Al Sabah, the prize being presented by Suhad Al Qenaei, the Show’s Patron.

The judges for the Show were:  Brigadier Iain Cholerton, Commander of the BMM; Mr Gary Moran, General Manager of the Mövenpick Hotel Al Bida’a; Frau Elza Words, wife of the German Ambassador; Mrs Natalia Kinshchak , wife of the Russian Ambassador; and Major Rodney Gonzalez, Commanding Officer of the Military Dog Unit at Camp Arifjan. They had a tough job on their hands with over 150 dogs entered into the various categories.

As well as the competition there were demonstrations by a military working dog unit kindly provided by US Forces from Camp Arifjan, face painters, bouncy castles, refreshment stalls, a magician and a number of retail stalls and food outlets.

The event was very generously sponsored by, amongst others, the Mövenpick Hotel Al Bida’a, Al Ghanim Industries, Pedigree Foods and Mars.

The highest praise must go to the unstinting efforts of the PAWS volunteers and staff from the British Embassy without whom the event simply could not have taken place. These people week in and week out give their time, effort and love to the welfare of sick and injured animals, it was great to see so many helpers this year, from friends, family, embassy staff and 16 kids from KES all mucking in to help the show be a success.

And success it was, the weather which started dull and dusty turned out fine and a grand time was had by all, dogs and humans joining together for a fun-filled day.  Attendance at the event was around 200 dogs and 700 people, of whom half were expats and half Kuwaiti citizens, all of whom contributed most generously to raise much needed money all of which will go to improving the quality of life for animals in Kuwait.

Here are some videos of the event

Kuwait Times – Every dog has his day: Fifth Annual PAWS for the Cause Dog Show 2010

KUWAIT: Kuwait’s Protecting Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) held its fifth annual ‘PAWS for the Cause’ dog show yesterday in the grounds of the British Embassy.  More than 700 people attended the event, which took place between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM, with many bringing their dogs along to take part in the competitions and just to meet some canine companions, with the human visitors getting to meet fellow dog-lovers.

This is the fifth time we’ve organized this event,” explained PAWS administrator Janet Ralph.” We’re a non-profit organization. There are a lot of participants and a lot of sponsors for the events, with Pedigree putting up the most money and donating free ice cream for the guests, donating pet food and making beautiful panels. Movenpick have also been fantastic with us; they’ve provided a lot of food for the people.

She also praised the hosts of the event, saying, “The British Embassy have been wonderful with us too. Lots of people who work in the embassy volunteered to help us out here, and they made some cakes and muffins for the event.
The PAWS administrator explained that the dog show featured a number of different events. “We have a raffle draw at the end of the day for the participants and most of the gifts are from our sponsors; we have around 60 different raffle prizes.

Every penny raised by the dog show is very much needed by PAWS to take care of the animals it helps, Ms. Ralph explained. “We are holding this show to raise funds for our shelters. We now have 65 dogs and 50 cats and it costs us a lot of money to feed them. We have no money, so every penny we get from these events goes to feeding them.

She further revealed that the dog show is only one of the events held by PAWS: “We hold three big fundraisers a year; the Paws Dog Show, the puppy show and the Christmas dinner in the German Embassy. It’s fantastic that all these bodies help us – if we didn’t have these three events during the year, we wouldn’t be able to raise the funds that we do.

There were five categories for canine entrants into yesterday’s dog show: Best Tail-Wagger; Best Lookalike; Most Mysterious Heritage; Most Obedient Dog; Most Adorable Dog, Pet Pageant (Best-Dressed); Best Veteran (for dogs of seven or older), and Best Rescue Dog. During a break in the proceedings, the dogs of the Military K9 Unit put on a brilliant display
