The Government in Kuwait regularly and routinely puts poison in the streets to kill the feral cats. Unfortunately dogs that have been out walking have innocently picked up this poison and died. Please be careful when walking your dogs that they do not touch or try to eat anything from the ground.

There has been recent concern about the use of poison in some areas of Kuwait, so you may find this information of use. My information is that it may be strychnine and this is certainly consistant with the cases I have seen at RAH.
Strychnine, an extremely potent poison that has been used for the control of rodents, feral cats and stray dogs produces some of the most dramatic and distressing symptoms imaginable.
10 minutes to 2 hours after swallowing strychnine the animal starts to lose control of its muscles. There may be vocalisation with stiffness and nervousness that is exacerbated by touch and sound. The muscles begin to contract uncontrolably. The limbs become extended ( extensor rigidity) and the back arched ( opisthotonus )
The muscle of respiration are paralysed and eventual death is by asphyxiation. During the early stages, if seizure isn’t present it it well worth trying to make the animal vomit. The constant muscle contraction causes hyperthermia and muscle destruction and immediate veterinary treatment is aimed at reducing this uncontrolled hyperactivity with sedation. Intra-venous fluids reduce the accumulation of lactic acid and other muscle breakdown toxins. Activated charcoal and gastric lavage are used to remove any remaining poison. With rapid and intense support the chance of recovery from strychnine poisoning is good.
Hi, good day! Your post is extremely impressive. I never thought that it was possible to do something like that until after I checked out your post. You undoubtedly offered a great perception on exactly how this whole scheme works. I will always return for more info. Keep it up!
Are you sure it wasn’t rat poison ?
Every so often they have campaigns against rodents, which is why it would be foolish to target natures best rodent controller..the cat ! If we didn’t have street cats the country could be over run with rats. In some of the newer areas they are having a rodent problem.
It happens every year unfortunately. They do it regularly. Wild cats hide their life and death, that’s why we do not notice that. But young family dogs are very curious so they can be first victim. This awful accident was in Mishref couple days ago.
I’ve never heard of a cat being deliberately poisoned by the Government in Kuwait..thats awful. In which area is this happening ?
