2011 Golf Day

The Sahara Kuwait today hosted a very special golf tournament. The first PAWS Charity Golf Day, held to raise money for Kuwait’s first animal rescue shelter, was a resounding success. Scores of golfers braved the dusty weather to spend the morning competing in this fun tournament, which was based on the fun Texas Scramble format.

In this format, competitors play in teams of four, using the best shot between them. This allows for a more relaxed and fun game for golfers of all abilities.

Participants started arriving at the Sahara clubhouse from 6.30am. After a group photograph, the competition started at 8.30am, finishing almost five hours later.

After a full morning of golf, participants were treated to a wonderful buffet lunch in Sahara’s luxurious clubhouse.

Following a brief speech by the PAWS Co-Chairman, prizes for the winning teams were presented. The lucky winners were:

1st place:

  • S. Q. Seok
  • S. J. Yong
  • I. J. Choi
  • S. W. Byun

2nd place:

  • R. Paul
  • M. Murphy
  • J. Urilusz
  • O. Brown

Nearest to the hole: Les Hofmeister

Longest drive: A. Baroon

Commenting on PAWS Kuwait’s first golf tournament, Michael Stubbs, Co-Chairman, said: “Our first golf tournament has been a great success. The emphasis was on fun, and people had a great morning of golf. I am very happy with the amount of money we have raised. This will be used to continue our work helping animals in need in Kuwait.”

PAWS Kuwait is Kuwait’s first animal rescue shelter. Since its founding in late 2003, PAWS Kuwait has rescued and re-homed over 2000 animals. The organisation is run on a non-profit basis, with all money coming from special events, donations and sponsorship. Each week, people give up their free time to walk dogs and socialise cats at the PAWS Kuwait rescue shelter.
