Why to spay and neuter dogs and cats

PAWS Kuwait informs:

Why to spay and neuter dogs and cats?

If “overpopulation” is defined as more animals than humans find convenient, most of the world has over population. Feral (unsocialized to humans), stray, or homeless cats and dogs are present to a greater or lesser degree in every country on earth. In Kuwait we have thousands of stray, abandoned, feral cats and dogs all over the country.

Every animal deserves a chance to thrive in a responsible and permanent home. Sadly, breeders, pet stores and people who fail to sterilise their companion animals have created a tremendous overpopulation problem that forces animal shelters to exist, hundreds of dogs and cats are admitted to the animal shelters in Kuwait every year.

Daily PAWS is getting requests to take over a litter of puppies, kittens from people who don’t want to take responsibility for the born ones and who haven’t taken responsibility to avoid increasing population.

Animals which don’t have the luck to end up in one of the shelters will be just kicked on the streets, they suffer from accidents, hunger, injuries, fights, heat and coldness and very often from cruelty of people who don’t respect a living creature like they should.

Count Year No.of kittens born No. of cats giving birth Additional no. of cats giving birth
Spring 2006 4 1 x
Autumn 2006 4 1 x
Spring 2007 12 3 2
Autumn 2007 20 5 2
Spring 2008 44 11 6
Autumn 2008 84 21 10

Autumn 2011 5460 1365 682
Spring 2012 10,924 2731 1366

Total number of kittens from ONE mother cat born in 6 years: 10,924 – That’s a lot of cats!

Unofficial Breeders produce thousands of dogs and cats for the profit only, most of them end up unfixed in the streets and increase the overpopulation! So help us, the Animal Welfare Societies to control dog and cat population in Kuwait!

One solution for this problem is Spaying and Neutering your pets in a professional vet clinic, like Dohama, IVH or RAH Hospital.

How u can make a change?

Don’t buy pets from unreliable people, puppies and kittens are often very sick, got no vaccination and were taken away from their mothers much too early to make fast profit, they will come to your house for a short period only, because often they die after a few days or weeks. Come to the shelters of Kuwait www.paws-kuwait.org and get your vaccinated, healthy, spayed dog or cat from us, many are waiting for a permanent home there, some of them for years!

If you buy an un-neutered pet and u don’t want to breed seriously with a high sense of responsibility, admit them to the clinics to neuter them, the clinics will give u advice in which age it has to be done.

Some people might say it is inhuman to do it, but ask yourself; is it more human to allow uncontrolled breeding with the unfortunately common result that people don’t know what to do with all the newborn kittens and puppies ? Many of them end up abandoned in the streets and they might die a terrible, long death there!

If you are a responsible animal lover and u want to fight with us against overpopulation act in the name of welfare for the animals.

Think seriously about neutering and spaying your own pets, or catch animals u might feed outside and admit them to the vet clinics, after recovering you can release them to their old territories.

    Hi,
I took in 2 male stray dogs back in June this year. I got all their basic shots from the Dohaman hospital.
According to the vet there, their estimated age should now be around 7 months. I think its the ideal time to neuter them, but I am concerned about the safety of the operation. The two of them are always play fighting with each other and I’m concerned that they will hurt each other after the operation. Would you know the approximate recovery time after the procedure? Also, would you say that the Dohaman hospital is safe for such a procedure? I’ve know there are other options such as royal animal and IVH, but those seem to be more costly. I am looking for a safe environment, where I know my dogs will be take care of, without any added frills (i.e. I don’t care if the doctor is British or Pilipino, as long as he knows what he’s doing).
    Thanks for your help.

    Stacey,

The Royal Animal Hospital will be happy to safely spay your rabbit. She will spend only one day at the hospital and come back for her stitches to be checked after 1 week. We are happy to castrate male rabbits too!

  3. AnimalLover,
You should visit our shelter and pickup appropriate cat (kitten). You may need to do spaying yourself at any of vet clinic in Kuwait. Spaying can be done only on pets which reached specific age, so it will be your responsibility to do so if you adopt pet in very young age.

  4. Stacy,
Please contact vet clinics which will can such operations for you. List of clinics as per below list:

People can be so heartless. Reading the articles of this website was really helpful to me, yet it’s so sad to see these pets without families, shelters, homes. People are such jerks to treat them irresponsibly.

My dad was going to get a couple of kittens from one of his friends. I’m not sure if i should visit PAWS first? I would very much LOVE a spayed cat because i do not want so many kittens scattering around my home!

Does PAWS also offer kittens with different breeds? Spayed & vaccinated too? Please answer :)

    I’m only 13.

Would you like to get spayed PAWS?like this there would be less ********* like y’all

Its inhuman, non sense,your5 fingers are not the same, animals have needs like humans, its not because you neuter animals that there will be less of them o less death and pain ,thi is nature wethr you like it or not and it is up to the future owner to neuter them or not, maybe they want to breed, either for money or just as a passion.Good breeders and people who let this happen have responsibilities, the others are just careless and you should take it on them not on the pets.Plus kuwait is very hot.The newborn kittens or puppies either get sold from good ppl to good ppl by their owners or kept. The only sick pets you find in shelters is from the streets with no owners(so pets live in their nature,do you think they can spay themselves alone in te street?)(how smart your trying to be lol.)PS:ther are many lost neutered cats or dogs in the streets
